Christmas shopping at Sculpture by the Lakes

This Christmas, escape the usual hectic routine and get all your shopping done at Sculpture by the Lakes! Say goodbye to busy high streets, long queues and all the other annual stresses of Christmas we’ve become so accustomed to, and say hello to the calming and unique shopping experience here instead.

Discover something special at The Makers Yard

To better distinguish the different elements of Sculpture by the Lakes, we have recently combined the free-to-enter elements of our sculpture park into the Makers Yard. Just in time for Christmas, this new collection of areas is a great alternative to the horrendously busy stores you’ll find on the high street this season.

Come along and discover something special at our Makers Yard – brimming with unique gifts from talented artists and makers, and artisan food and drink from passionate local producers. With beautifully curated displays, a stress-free experience, and a stunning setting in the Dorset countryside, The Makers Yard is the antidote to the hectic high street or soulless online shops.

The Store & The Pantry – treasure troves of delight

Filled with hundreds of wonderful hand-crafted items, at The Store you are sure to find a plethora of artworks and artisan creations. With eye-catching displays of work from more than 80 makers from across Dorset, it brings together the best of the county’s creative talents together in one space.

Find an abundance of products spanning a wide range of mediums and techniques, each offering variety, originality and quality in abundance. There is sure to be something that each of your loved ones will adore, from:

·      Art – painting, prints, sculpture

·      Craft – glasswork, pottery, textiles, wood carving, weaving, leatherwork, jewellery

·      Homeware – luxury bath treats, textiles, candles, mugs and ceramics, kitchen utensils, skin products

·      Clothing and accessories, from leather hats to scarfs

Or take a trip into The Pantry and discover some fantastic local food and drink from independent producers, including our very own Kitchen Garden. Whether you are looking for a special treat, a bottle of wine or a gourmet gift, we can cater for your every need.

The Gallery

In our Gallery, we are proud to exhibit work by both local and international artists in our three gallery spaces. The expansive exhibition space is home to a unique collection of mediums and styles, from sculpture, to large original paintings and smaller prints, all together creating a fully dimensional experience.

Our current exhibition, which will be closing out the year, is Look Up! A Journey Through Print Land – a stunning celebration of the ingenuity, diversity and sheer magic of contemporary printmaking.

With an emphasis on exploration, curiosity and experimentation within their respective practices, join nine artists from the South West as they push the boundaries of printmaking, including with a number of ‘sculptural interventions’, where printmaking has outgrown its usual two-dimensional format to literally leap from the page.

The Cafe

If you get peckish or thirsty whilst you’re browsing, then why not pop over to The Kitchen for a coffee and a snack? The Kitchen offers a relaxed setting where you can enjoy a freshly prepared, seasonal menu made by our head chef James Howarth, using premium quality ingredients and vegetables sourced directly from our kitchen garden.

Or, if you’re all shopped out and are looking for a delectable festive meal to round out your day, see if you can be tempted by our festive menu, where you can get 2 delicious courses for £25, and 3 for £30. Book your table by emailing [email protected].

Make a day of your visit

Although the Makers Yard is free, while you’re visiting us, why not use the opportunity to book a ticket to our gorgeous sculpture park? It is a particularly unique and relaxing experience, especially in the colder months as the rich greens and browns make way for vibrant crimsons and golds!

We really hope to see you at The Makers Yard this holiday season and would love to help you find the perfect Christmas gifts! But, if all else fails and you don’t find anything you love, then a Sculpture by the Lakes gift card is sure to go down well…
